Want to Know Which Mirrorless Camera to Buy? Look to the TIPA Awards

‘The most coveted photo and imaging awards worldwide’ recognizes Sony, Canon, and Panasonic cameras this year.

When the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) started giving out its camera awards in 1991, the big winner for Best Camcorder was the Sanyo ES88P. Both the organization and the technology it promotes have come a long way. Now dubbed ‘the most coveted photo and imaging awards worldwide’, the 2018 list recognizes 23 cameras and lenses and 17 accessories and ancillary items as the best products in the imaging business.

Particularly if you’re looking to a new consumer camera, the organization prides itself on “important benchmark and guide for consumers in making their purchasing decisions.” However, many of this year’s award-winners are finding favor with independent filmmakers, as well. We tested out this year’s winner for Best Mirrorless CSC Expert Full Frame, the Sony a7 III mirrorless 4K camera, just last month, and found its powerful autofocus to live up to the hype.
